WHEN FREEDOM BECOMES A TRAP (PART 4)
KEY TEXT: 1 Corinthians 6:12 (KJV): “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient… but I will not be brought under the power of any.”

WHAT CONTROLS YOU OWNS YOU: True freedom ends the moment a believer is controlled by anything other than the Holy Spirit. Apostle Paul clearly stated his resolve not to be brought under the power of any appetite, habit, or indulgence. When something begins to dominate a believer’s time, thoughts, or affection, it has crossed from enjoyment into ownership. Many believers lose spiritual authority not through open sin, but through uncontrolled liberties that slowly take the place of God in their lives. (Romans 6:16; Matthew 6:24)
SUBTLE BONDAGE OF UNRESTRAINED APPETITES: Unrestrained appetites do not announce themselves as bondage; they present themselves as harmless pleasures. Over time, these appetites demand attention, consistency, and loyalty. What once served as a choice becomes a necessity. This is how freedom quietly becomes a trap. When a believer finds it difficult to fast, pray, or obey because of an appetite, control has already shifted. God never intended pleasures to master the believer. (Proverbs 23:2; Titus 3:3)
LIVING ABOVE CONTROL THROUGH DISCIPLINE: God has empowered believers to live above every form of domination through the discipline of the Spirit. Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit and a mark of spiritual maturity. When believers walk in discipline, they regain authority over their desires and choices. Discipline does not restrict freedom; it protects it. A believer who governs their appetites walks in spiritual authority, clarity, and lasting victory. (Galatians 5:22–23; 1 Corinthians 9:27)
PRAYER:
Father, I thank You for the freedom I have in Christ Jesus. I refuse to be controlled by any appetite, habit, or pleasure. By the power of the Holy Spirit, I regain mastery over my desires and choices. I declare that nothing will take Your place in my life. I walk in disciplined freedom and spiritual authority, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
REFLECTION:
