UNDERSTANDING SIN
KEY TEXT: Romans 5:12 KJV – “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.”

THE ORIGIN OF SIN: Sin did not begin with man but with Satan, who rebelled against God (Isaiah 14:12–14). When Adam disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, sin entered into the human race. Since then, every man is born with a sinful nature. Sin is not just an action; it is a condition of the heart that separates man from God (Isaiah 59:2). This is why even good deeds without Christ cannot save—because the root problem is the sinful nature that all inherited from Adam.
THE NATURE OF SIN: Sin is deceitful and enslaving. It promises pleasure but ends in destruction (Hebrews 3:13). It blinds the heart and hardens the conscience until the sinner no longer feels guilt. Sin is lawlessness (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against God’s authority. Even believers must be careful, because if sin is not confessed and forsaken, it grows into iniquity and draws the soul further away from God.
THE CONSEQUENCE OF SIN: The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Sin kills spiritual sensitivity, weakens fellowship with God, and opens the door to eternal condemnation. No man can escape the judgment of sin except through the blood of Jesus Christ. This is why every believer must understand sin clearly, repent daily, and guard their hearts diligently. The first step to victory is acknowledging the reality and danger of sin.
PRAYER:
Lord, help me never to play with sin. Open my eyes to see sin as You see it, and give me grace to always walk in holiness, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
REFLECTION:
Proverbs 14:34 KJV – “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.”
