THE POWER OF SELF-DISCIPLINE (PART 2)
KEY TEXT: Galatians 5:17 KJV – “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

Every believer faces a constant battle between the flesh and the Spirit. The flesh seeks pleasure, comfort, and sin, while the Spirit urges obedience, holiness, and sacrifice. Without self-discipline, the flesh will always win, and sin will dominate. Apostle Paul understood this conflict and declared, “I die daily” (1 Corinthians 15:31). This means he continually brought the desires of the flesh under the rule of the Spirit. Beloved, victory over the flesh begins when you consciously deny yourself and allow the Word of God to govern your life.
The flesh has led many away from divine purpose. It makes prayer difficult, fasting uncomfortable, and holiness unattractive. But those who discipline their bodies gain mastery over sin and become instruments of righteousness. Romans 8:13 says, “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die.” This is not just physical death but spiritual decay. The disciplined Christian, however, subdues the cravings of the body through prayer, fasting, and meditation on the Word, producing purity and spiritual strength.
To overcome the flesh, you must set boundaries for yourself. Avoid places, conversations, and relationships that weaken your spirit. Feed your inner man with the Word of God and starve the appetites of sin. The more you say “No” to the flesh, the stronger your spirit becomes. Remember, the power to live a victorious life lies in your ability to crucify the flesh daily and yield completely to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER:
O Lord, help me to overcome the desires of the flesh and to live continually under the influence of Your Spirit, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
REFLECTION:
You cannot conquer what you continually feed; starve the flesh and feed the Spirit.
