THE DANGERS OF GREED (PART 4)

KEY TEXT: COLOSSIANS 3:2 KJV: "Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

Those who trust in riches rather than in God will ultimately face destruction. Wealth or material possession cannot save a person’s soul, nor can it grant true peace. Only a heart fully surrendered to Christ will find eternal life. Many that trusted in their wealth and position, died, and found out that they were living a shadow life. Reality set forth immediately they gave up the ghost, but it was too late to turn back the hand of the clock. "Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death” (PROVERBS 11:4).

The Bible teaches that generosity is the cure to the deadly disease called greed. By giving freely and helping those in need, we reflect God's love and store up treasures in heaven. "The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself” (PROVERBS 11:25).

Ultimately, as heavenly minded believers and people living to please God daily, we must guard our hearts against greed and seek first the kingdom of God. True fulfillment is not found in the accumulation of wealth, but in a life devoted to serving God and doing His will faithfully and joyfully. “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (MATTHEW 6:33).

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus Christ, please guide my heart against greed so that I don't trade my soul for the temporary pleasure of this world. Grant me the grace to place you and your kingdom before anything else in the world, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION:

1 John 2:15 KJV: "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
