THE BATTLE OF THE HEART, MIND AND EYES

KEY TEXT: Proverbs 4:23 KJV: “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

THE HEART GATE: Our heart is a gate that must be carefully guarded. Many things flow in, and many things flow out. One crucial truth about the heart is that what you allow in takes root and does not easily leave on its own, and what flows out cannot be taken back. If you allow sin into your heart, it will take root and begin to influence your thoughts, words, and actions—even beyond your control. Likewise, if evil proceeds from your heart, you cannot undo its effects. Sin leaves a lasting stain; one that only the blood of Jesus can cleanse. PROVERBS 4:23

THE MIND GATE: The mind is like a tilled ground, where it can be easily injected with ideas, thoughts and beliefs. Whatever you feed your mind will ultimately shape your thoughts, which in turn influence your actions. If you constantly consume worldly influences and ungodliness, your thoughts will conform to them, leading you away from God’s truth. The enemy understands this and works relentlessly to keep you away from God’s word and critical messages that would save you. PHILIPPIANS 4:8

THE EYE GATE: Our eyes serve as a powerful gateway to both the mind and heart. In Genesis 3:6 – Eve saw the fruit and desired it, leading to sin in the end. What you fix your eyes upon can impact your spiritual health. If you look upon things that defile, they will corrupt your spirit. Jesus Himself warned about the power of the eyes in Matthew 6:22-23. Let your eyes be fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, and do not take your eyes off of Him. LUKE 11:34

PRAYER:

Holy Spirit of God, please help me with the grace to take every thought into captivity to the obedience and will of my Lord God and Savior, Jesus Christ. In Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.
