TAKING HEED TO GOD’S CHASTISEMENT

KEY TEXT: Revelation 3:19 KJV: “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.”

THROUGH PEOPLE: God chastises us believers due to His fatherly love towards us. He uses people to carry out His chastisement whenever His children go astray. For example, God can use your spiritual leader often through a sermon or even those who are close to you, whom you may look down on, to voice His correction towards you. When David was king in Israel and sinned, God sent a prophet to him so that he would hear the words of chastisement from the living God. 2 Samuel 12:1–7

THROUGH SITUATIONS: Sometimes you may see situations arising around you that seem unfavourable. They may even come all at once and appear like strange coincidences, where certain dilemmas surround you and even affect those close to you. This can sometimes be God’s chastisement, warning you to wake up and seek Him. Those who are in the Spirit will know when it is the hand of God. Job 2:10

THROUGH HIS WORD: The primary and highest source of correction is rooted in the Word of God. The Word is like a sword that pierces and reveals men’s thoughts, identifying and correcting us when we go astray. It is the Word of God that, when read, can convict a person of sin immediately, without the need for explanation. Heed God’s chastisement over your life, and do not harden your heart. Hebrews 4:12

PRAYER:

O Lord, I receive the grace to heed unto your divine correction, and help me to not be stiff necked whenever your rod of correction comes to set me aright in Jesus Christ's mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION:

Proverbs 3:11 KJV: “My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:”

PRAYER POINTS:

1. Father, grant me a humble and teachable heart to receive Your rebuke and correction without resistance or offense, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

2. Lord, deliver me from spiritual blindness and stiff-necked pride; help me to quickly discern when Your chastisement is at work in my life, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

3. O God, let Your Word continually search, convict, and realign me whenever I go astray, and cause me to walk in repentance and zeal for You, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

4. Father, turn every chastisement, correction, and rebuke into spiritual growth, maturity, and deeper intimacy with You, so I may not miss Your will, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
