LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT (PART 4)

KEY TEXT: Hebrews 12:1 KJV: “…let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us…”

There are certain sins that entangle believers more easily than others. These besetting sins are the ones a person finds difficult to overcome—such as anger, lust, lying, gossiping, or greed. They act like chains that wrap around the runner’s legs, preventing progress in the Christian journey. Scripture says: “Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” (Romans 6:16 KJV).

Many Christians excuse their besetting sins by saying, “That’s just how I am,” but this mindset is dangerous. Sin tolerated becomes sin strengthened, and sin strengthened becomes sin enslaving. No besetting sin can be allowed if we hope to finish the heavenly race.

The solution is not in human strength but in yielding fully to Christ, who has already given victory at the cross. We must confess, forsake, and resist the enemy daily. “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” (Galatians 5:1 KJV).

PRAYER:

Lord, break the chain of every besetting sin in my life and give me grace to walk in victory daily, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.

REFLECTION:

Galatians 5:1 KJV: “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”

PRAYER POINTS

1. Father, deliver me from every besetting sin that easily entangles my walk with You. Break every chain of anger, lust, lying, gossip, greed, and every hidden sin, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen

2. O Lord, give me the grace to resist sin daily. Strengthen my spirit so that I will not yield myself to anything that leads to death, but only to righteousness, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen

3. My Father, uproot every habit I have tolerated that is becoming a bondage. Let Your fire consume every sinful pattern that seeks to enslave my soul, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen

4. Lord Jesus, empower me to stand fast in the liberty You purchased for me. Help me never to be entangled again with the yoke of bondage, but to walk in daily victory, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
