LAY ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT (PART 3)

KEY TEXT: Hebrews 12:1 KJV: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight…”

One of the strongest weights hindering believers today is worldliness. The Scripture clearly warns: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15 KJV). The race of faith cannot be run successfully by those who are distracted by lusts, materialism, and the pleasures of this world.

Worldliness works subtly, making one think that pursuing fashion, wealth, and recognition is harmless. Yet these things, when loved above God, drag the soul into compromise. A believer who clings to worldly pleasures cannot maintain purity, because friendship with the world is enmity with God (James 4:4).

The only way forward is to detach our hearts from the temporary glory of this life and set our focus on eternal treasures. “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2 KJV). Heaven is the true goal of every believer, and nothing worldly should be allowed to hinder that race.

PRAYER:

Father, deliver me from the love of the world and help me to set my affection on things above, in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.

REFLECTION:

Colossians 3:2 KJV: “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

PRAYER POINTS

1. My God and my Father, deliver me from every form of worldliness that competes with Your place in my heart. Let the love of the Father overpower the love of this world in my life, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen

2. O Lord my Father, break every desire for worldly pleasures, fashion, recognition, and materialism that distracts me from holiness and eternity, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name.amen

3. My Father and my God, set my affection on things above. Detach my heart from temporary things and help me to pursue eternal treasures with passion, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name.amen

4. Lord Jesus Christ, empower me to stand free from compromise and from every friendship with the world. Grant me the grace to run my race with purity and unwavering focus, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
