FOLLOW THE EXAMPLE OF JESUS CHRIST

KEY TEXT: 1 Peter 2:21-22 KJV: “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.”

MEN MAY FAIL: As we reflect on the generals of faith — David, Abraham, Peter, Samson, and others — we see that though they were greatly used by God, each of them fell short. David sinned with Bathsheba when kings were meant to be at war, Abraham, out of fear, misrepresented Sarah as his sister and Peter denied Christ three times. Both in the Old and New Testament, these heroes of faith yielded to sin’s craftiness. They were mighty, yet they were not perfect examples for us to follow. 2 Samuel 11:2-4

JESUS NEVER FAILS: But thank God for Jesus Christ, who gave us the perfect example. Unlike the others, there was no fault in Him. He lived a sinless life to show us the way back to the Father. He taught us how to live, how to love, and how to treat others. Truly, Jesus is the only one who can stand as the complete and irreproachable model of our faith. 1 Peter 2:21

JESUS, THE WAY: Even in suffering, Jesus showed us the way. He knew He would die on the cross and even told His disciples beforehand, yet He did not avoid it. Though He had the power to call down legions of angels, He endured the cross for our sake. He was reviled and did not revile again, He suffered but did not retreat, instead entrusting Himself to God who judges righteously. Jesus truly is the perfect example of patience, sacrifice, and long-suffering. Let Jesus be your perfect example today. 1 Peter 2:23

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, give me the grace to follow your perfect example and to reject every damnable example from others, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.
