DEFEAT THE DEVIL AND TEMPTATION THROUGH JESUS CHRIST (PART 3)

KEY TEXT: Matthew 4:6 KJV: “And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.”

The second trick that Satan used to attempt to tempt Jesus Christ was to coerce him to jump from the temple. This implies that Satan wants you to provoke God and do what you are not supposed to do, even though he knows that action can take your life. That thing can cause us to have pain or injury that will live with us throughout our lives. Exodus 23:21

The third temptation was that Jesus should bow down and worship him, Satan. It is written that the devil took him up into a high mountain and showed him all kingdoms of the world and said unto him, "All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me." Yes, you may get what Satan wants to give you, but I want to ask you, What shall it profit you if you gain the whole world, if you buy into the lie of Satan and get whatever you want through dubious, sinful and corrupt sins, and your soul ends up in hellfire? Matthew 4:8-9

So, when people are so crazy about getting power, the tendency for them is to buy into the lie of Satan. The Bible encourages us not to bow before other gods as it provokes God to jealousy. If you provoke God to jealousy, it means you want to see the wrath and anger of God. And that is exactly what Satan wants every child of God to do. Recall that Jesus defeated Satan with the Word of God. Use Bible verses to fight temptation as Jesus did in Matthew 4. Exodus 20:5

PRAYER: Lord Jesus Christ, You have already defeated Satan. Help me to defeat him and every temptation that comes my way, in Jesus Christ’s mighty name. Amen.

REFLECTION: Deuteronomy 32:16 KJV: “They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.”
