KEY TEXT: Romans 13:11-12 KJV: "And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light."

THE DEADLY SLEEP: The deadly sleep is a state a believer unknowingly wanders into, leaving their spiritual life vulnerable to sin. It is a sleep that many find hard to identify, because it creeps in gradually and steadily. The enemy does not attack all at once; instead, he takes his time, and in an unguarded moment, he presents his tempting invitations of iniquity and sin. Our brother Samson, in the Bible, fell prey to this sleep, which ultimately led to the loss of his power. EPHESIANS 5:14

AN ANALOGY: There was an experiment involving a frog placed in a pot of boiling water. Naturally, the frog would immediately jump out. However, if you place it in cold water and slowly increase the heat, the frog''s body adapts to the rising temperature. Eventually, the temperature becomes lethal, but the frog doesn''t notice until it dies from the heat due to its familiarity with the gradual change. This is how believers can fall into the same fate when deadly sleep overtakes a person. ISAIAH 56:10

THE WAKE-UP CALL: Now is the time for us to wake up, because we do not know when the Lord will come. He may come in the morning, in the afternoon, or even while you are asleep. He may come at an unknown hour, suddenly, and unexpectedly. But it is those who are awake, who have their lives thoroughly prepared in holiness and righteousness, who daily make things right with God and keep their house in order, who will be ready. Have you awoken from the deadly sleep? MATTHEW 25:5-6

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, wake me up from every deadly sleep I have been deceived into by the enemy, and help me to remain prepared all the days of my life. In Jesus Christ’s mighty name, Amen.

REFLECTION: Matthew 26:41 KJV: “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."
